Hey readers, I am back again to blog about my birthday trip
to Medan, Indonesia.
It was a short escape, and a very last minute trip, booked
my flight ticket less than a week before trip, cost about RM200 round trip.
It was real spontaneous trip with my best friend. :D
It was real spontaneous trip with my best friend. :D
So I had a morning flight on 2nd June, it was 6
in the morning that I have to arrive in the airport, so didn’t manage to party
the night before, so sad.
It only took 45 minutes to fly from Penang – Medan, its like travelling to KL.
Took the airport link which was built app 2-3 years ago, it is still something new to explore in Medan.
So this is the schedule if you would like to check it out.
The airport link was really convenient for us as the hotel
we stayed in for the trip was directly linked to the train station. (it only
requires minutes of walking).
The ticket cost us 100k RP per trip, with 30 minutes
journey.
We’ve made our booking to D’Prima Hotel Medan through
booking.com, located right above the Medan Train Station.
Airport Link.
Spent our first day by exploring around the area, did
nothing much but lots of sightseeing. Mainly the mall right opposite our hotel,
Centre Point.
Did some groceries shopping and had the typical Indonesian
food for our lunch.
Their typical jelly?
While waiting for lunch to be served. Hehe.
The food wasn’t pricey at all, most of them were served with
rice.
“I felt like a millionaire by looking at the receipt.” #qotd
The view of the busy streets from our hotel.
The snacks and drinks were worth buying!
Visited their famous night market in the night, Asia Mega
Mas Medan.
Most of the stalls were selling Korean, Taiwanese and
Chinese street food, and there were also some stalls selling Indonesian food in
the alleys.
It was really crowded, and we were confused with which to
eat, we ended having KFC instead.
And we also had some street snacks.
Churros Ice-cream ; idk what do they call this, fry
ice-cream maybe? But it was so so so so good, like the best thing that has ever
happened to me on my birthday, whee!
And btw, be really careful with your personal belongings, if
you have a backpack with you, carry it in front of you.
Another gently reminder, be careful when you wish to travel
around with the Becak, be sure to check on the price and everything, don’t get
cheated.
Like how we did it, hehe.
Also tasted their tiny waffles, tiny but pricey.
So it was the end of the day, we headed back to our hotel to
rest.
Becak, perfect fit for two.
The other side of our hotel is the mall I have mentioned earlier in the post.

.
It was the second day of the trip, we travelled all the way
to Berastagi, another amazing tourist spot in Medan.
This is highly recommended, the view is good, the weather is
good, everything is perfect, except for the journey.
Well, there are a few ways you can travel there, either with
a rental car, or with their public vans. The rental car is only worthy when you
have 4 persons so that you can divide up the cost spent. Since there were only
2 of us, we chose the public vans instead. Its only 10k rp per trip.
It was a 3 hours long journey, so you can either overnight
or make it a day trip.
There were actually nothing much to see in the Berastagi
town, unless if you wanna try out their traditional food.
We took a cab, forgot what was that called, but bigger than
a becak, and he became our driver of the day to bring us around Berastagi.
The weather was quite chilly, and first spot we visited
after arrival, the Gunung Sibayak, the view was seriously breath-taking. It
took us app 2hours to hike up.
Had so much hiking up the mountain!
I personally think that weather was the best part of all!
So we were amazed by the view of the active volcano and the
sulphur smelled like rotten eggs.
Here’s my pretty best friend, Stefanie.
Sat there for a half-an-hour rest, headed back to our next
destination.
Whee, we’ve finally made it to the top!
Not forgetting a cool strike post ; a selfie of course!
Headed for a chill in the hot spring.
There were several pools, I rate them according to the
hotness of the water.
There were just-hot, med-hot and super freaking hot *balls
burning*.
Just-hot sounded just perfect for me, good enough for me to
spend 20 minutes in there.
It cost us just a few bucks (in ringgit), so it was
definitely worth paying a visit.
Headed back to town for late lunch, tried their Indomie, its
like our maggi goreng, but a better taste for me.
And took the public van back to Medan, we were so tired so
we have decided to spend the rest of the day resting. Haha.

.
Oh, forgot to mention, our hotel comes with exclusive breakfast from Starbucks every morning.
Just a plain croissant and a cup of black coffee.
For the last day in Medan, only managed to visit two spots,
Sun Plaza for last minute shopping and Ghra Methodist, one of the largest
church in Medan.
My personal recommendation of what to buy:
-
White Coffee, there are several brands for their
white coffees, Luwak (advertised on AirAsia flight) and my personal favourite
after trying out, TOP (not the detergent, lol lol).
-
any snacks if you are a heavy eater, haha!
Visited Sun Plaza, had our lunch in CoffeeBox.
The food was satisfying, especially their milk tea.
A random street of Medan.
The church we visited was really big, well, I am not Christian but I was told that the church was visited by many Christian followers in Indonesian.
Well, not a bad place to visit of all the cultural buildings.
Met a new friend there.
Thank you for that cup of coffee, and touring us around!
